John Philip “Phil” Melick is Of Counsel in the Utilities industry group.
Phil represented public utilities, motor carriers, and others before the Public Service Commission (PSC) of West Virginia and litigated commercial, public procurement, and other business-related disputes in state and federal courts before retiring from full-time practice in 2016.
Beginning in the early 1980s with the restructuring of the telecommunications industry, Phil worked on dozens of rate, certificate, rulemaking, and other complex proceedings. Phil also represented plaintiffs and defendants in cases of commercial fraud, the jurisdiction of the PSC, condemnation, partition, and landowner rights.
Phil is now devoted to his lifelong interest in music. He is the proud owner of Elk City Records in his wife Susie’s childhood neighborhood on Charleston’s West Side and plays the euphonium, which, in case you’re wondering, looks like a small tuba.
