Spencer W. Tanner is an Associate in the Business Law industry group, focusing primarily on bankruptcy and commercial litigation. He practices out of the Firm’s office in Evansville, Indiana.

Whether he’s drafting a brief or memorandum, or developing creative strategies to handle motion practice and litigation, Spencer is committed to providing the best legal representation and counsel for his clients. He enjoys solving client problems by assessing the law, analyzing legal strategy, and working toward potential solutions.

Spencer gained invaluable legal experience while serving as a former Deputy Attorney General for the state of Indiana. He is an experienced litigator, having appeared before Indiana state courts and federal bankruptcy courts. He received his law degree from the Indiana University Robert H. McKinney School of Law in 2014 and his Bachelor of Arts degrees in political science and history from the Indiana University in 2010. Spencer is excited to be part of the Jackson Kelly team, and Jackson Kelly is proud to have such a rising star in its ranks.

  • State of Indiana ex rel. Gregory F. Zoeller v. Alan Mizen, Marion Superior Court (Court granted Summary Judgment in favor of State on its Cross-motion in public fraud case. Judgment was affirmed on appeal)
  • State of Indiana ex rel. Gregory F. Zoeller v. Frank Mejeans, Antonnette Mejeans, Ohio Casualty Insur. Co., and Western Surety, Sullivan Superior Court (After granting Temporary Restraining Order in State’s favor, State’s Motion for Summary Judgment was granted over objection in public fraud case)
  • State of Indiana v. Jeffery Reardon, Lucia Specialized Hauling Inc., Billie Battie, Jr., Marion Superior Court (Complaint for Damage to State property on behalf of the Ind. Department of Transportation, case later dismissed)
  • State of Indiana ex. rel. Attorney General v. Donnald W. Gambrel, LaPorte Circuit Court (Parties reached an Agreed Judgment in public fraud case)
  • Ohio Valley Eye Institute, P.C. v. Diyee Boulangger, Vanderburgh Superior Court (Summary Judgment granted in favor of client over objection in embezzlement case)
  • Diyee Boulangger, Appellant, v. Ohio Valley Eye Institute, P.C., Appellee,  Indiana Court of Appeals (Court of Appeals affirmed the trial court’s ruling in favor of Appellee that subpoenaed information concerning client fee payments was not protected communication under the attorney-client privilege and did not implicated the client’s Fifth Amendment privilege)

Coulter, U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of Indiana (Cross-Motion for Summary Judgment granted in favor of State in unemployment fraud case concerning State’s debt being excepted from bankruptcy discharge by virtue of Section 523(a)(2)(A) of the Bankruptcy Code)
  • State of Indiana v. Eddie Ray Carter and Candace Lynn Pittman, Debtors, U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Northern District of Indiana (Agreed Judgment in favor of State in consumer fraud case after 2004 examination of debtors)
